Biography

Béatrice Josse was born in Paris in 1965 and studied Art History at Rennes University, Paris IV University and the Ecole du Louvre, and Law at Rennes University and Reims University. She has been the Director of FRAC Lorraine since 1993.

Over the past 20 years she has organized numerous group exhibitions and public art projects with artists such as Tadashi Kawamata, Thomas Hirschhorn, Hans Schabus and Tania Mouraud, and individual projects with Thierry Kuntzel, Teresa Margolès, Tania Bruguera, Lida Abdul, Cildo Meireles and Doug Wheeler.

Working without an exhibition space until 2004, she initiated the renovation of the historical building where FRAC Lorraine resides today. Known as 49 Nord 6 Est, it has been conceived as a multi-disciplinary platform where politically-poetic subjects are dealt with though a feminist and post-colonial approach. The collection that she has built is largely devoted to the invisible, performance and women artists, and constitutes a space of reflection and experimentation open to critical dialogues.

Béatrice Josse has contributed to numerous publications in France, Luxembourg, Scotland, Belgium, Poland and Uruguay.
